This is just a FYI, but I just noticed new Phanteks PSUs at Newegg, and I was unaware they were going to get back into that market.

After looking at them a little closer and reading some articles, they are apparently made by Seasonic, and are very similar to the Prime units. Like Seasonic's Prime units, they come with 12 year warranties, but differ in their ability which allows two PSUs to be used at the same time. However, I doubt there is that large of a consumer demand for such a thing, but you never know.

The best thing about this new series from Phanteks is they cost considerably less than Seasonic's Prime series after they raised the pricing earlier this year. For example, at Newegg the Phanteks 850w unit is $129.99, while the Seasonic Prime 850w is $169.99.

I don't understand why Seasonic and other manufacturers are going away from wire fan grills, especially on their higher end PSU's. Aside from less airflow and more noise, it makes it nearly impossible to blow out the dust with air.

I may grab a Focus or an EVGA before they completely eliminate then.

I agree. I think it just comes down to making them look more like a premium product. And with so many people whose biggest concern is their component's aesthetics, it seems like form over function wins out many times. Other examples of this are solid-front PC cases, and the plastic shrouds they put on motherboards, trapping heat from the chokes and mosfets (Asus Strix Ryzen boards are the biggest examples of this).

When it comes to PSUs, Thermaltake and NZXT might be the worst offenders when it comes to restrictive designs on many of their designs:
