Poor Nick Watney, overnight 3 shot leader to 4 behind after 8 holes, this is on par with Dustin Johnson's US Open blowup.

Most guys blow their first chance. Even greats like Watson, Palmer and Nicklaus choked away majors early in their career before they learned to win. McDowell and Oosthuizen winning the first time they contended were flukes. Learning to lose is part of the process.

Oh no, if Dustin gets hosed on grounding his club in that area it's going to suck. There's no way any reasonable person would consider that to be a bunker.

He obviously grounded his club ... but to classify that as a bunker, when people are standing in it ... can't be classified as a hazard. Though I'm afraid the rules will say it is so :(

If it is deemed a bunker, then why the hell can people be standing in it? I know there are hundreds of 'cosmetic' bunkers there ... but really, that is unfair.

Granted, Johnson blasted his drive WAAAAAY wide of the fairway, so ultimately it is of his creation, but still, that is harsh.

Yep. That sucks royally, but dems the rules. Doesn't matter if he thought it was a hazard or not, it is.

Me personally? If I saw the sand with as many bunkers as that course has? I wouldn't ground shit and ask for a ruling.

He got a 2 stroke penalty for grounding the club in what the PGA officials, on replay, determined that it is indeed a bunker (but I don't agree on that) and he did ground his club, even though it was ever so slight. Sorry to say, he learned an expensive lesson. When in doubt, always treat the area as if you can not ground the club. We now have 2 players starting a 3 hole playoff, beginning on hole #10

Yep, that was an expensive lesson. I bet he learned it. I'm not knocking him at all, but the lesson is surely learned.

Oh Bubba :( As a lefty ... and one that swings fairly wild, I'm definitely pulling for him. Dumping into #18's creek was a sad moment.

Sure was, that kind of lie though it's tough to predict if the grass is going to grab the club, he should have just played a safe shot instead of trying to carry it 225 from that lie..

If you can't yell and cheer when you want during a sport, it's not a sport.

It's a sport, just one that expects it's fan's to behave to a standard, ie: show some class and be quiet when a player is in the middle of his swing..

And someone almost screwed Kaymer up on 18. Stopped his swing right at the top of his backswing because some idiot cameraman HAD to get THE shot.

Great showing by Elkington, too...

I saw that, boy was he pissed, can't say I blame him. I was actually surprised with how well he stuck that 7 in there, thought he might be rattled by the photo incident. Nice showing by Elk indeed, for a 47 yr. old impressive. I was pulling for Bubba though ,a guy who's never had a lesson and learned to hook and fade a ball by playing wiffle golf around the house, that's just insane, I so wanted him to win!..
