granted it was a 512mb 6200 and i returned it the next day

I can assure you that having a 512mb framebuffer didn't help it very much tho :Q

Happy 13th of November Video

EDIT: the worst thing was itwasn't even the 6600 core, so it wouldn't unlock, and it didn't overclock worth a damn

I don't think people are ranting and raving over 6200 512 MB cards around here, but I could be wrong. My next-door neighbors (who can't even use e-mail) might be all over it though. :p

A 512MB 6200? :Q Ahh, gotta love marketing.

Sounds as bad as the 256MB GF5200 :p

I feel bad for the non-enthusiasts who fall for the "bigger numbers must be better" trap.

performance isn't the point at this end of the market, but the 5200, being DX9 will run 3dmark03 and 3dmark05 all the way through - thats more than its direct competitor, the 9250 can claim.

The main reason 256mb entry level cards exist is to benefit developers more than consumers. Developers want more memory so they can offer more content (different textures) in games. The more people who own grahics cards with plenty of memory the easier it is for them to make their case to the publishers.

hehe, the Fosters we get here (in Aus) is a very different, and much more horrible beer than the Fosters that is exported to the US and Europe afaik.

Nice.
I was thinking of overclocking one of these x300 512MB beasts with vodka on the fan? what do you think. will the evaporating vodka decrease heat. ?

Maybee i will even put it in the wtaercooler.

By the way, can anyone here tell me if they use a vapochill to chill anything apart from their chips. like a nice iced Taquila...............wil lime naturaly.

I actually did recently run 3dmark05 with my fx5200 - just to see it make some pretty graphics for once. It literally just meets the requirements (Hardware dx9, 128MB) and its a vanilla version, therefore has only 64 bit memory interface.

And it scores a record breaking.................................................................. 253 !!

Certainly quite a difference to the 14K - 18K thats possible with SLI 7800 GTX cards.

As I said, performance isn't the point. upping the base memory size is and upping the base specification is.

Game development is driven to a very large extent by the principle of "lowest common denominator".

Developers want most people to be able to run their games, and won't use features that are not commonplace (serious gamers make up approx 15% of the total pc market, then you have to take into account XBOX - dx8 & PS2 - voodoo1 equiv).

Most buyers at the low end care only about feature compliance and price, otherwise intel would sell no celerons + IGP motherboards, except to businesses.

If serious gamers want better games that make good use of the features of their cards then ordinary PC's also need the same features (but less performance), you have to lift the standard from the bottom up, not the top down (lowest common denominator principle at work). It's possilble & necessary given the reality of the PC market to have features without necessarily having performance.

People serious about gaming won't be using the low end cards (for gaming) anyway - I assume jazzboy's 5200 isn't in his gaming rig...
