One particularity: the Hybrid LM P1
The 24 Heures du Mans remains one of the major conveyors of automobile technical innovation. The ACO will enable teams to participate with hybrid cars as from 2009, upon invitation, but without being classified.

it was hoped the 2009 rules would allow KERS in the alms, but classification won't come 'til 2010 at least.

out of the 5 908's produced, 2 were destroyed, and the third was converted into the HY. from the remaining two, only one was brought to race in the petit le mans at road atlanta tomorrow. the car was badly wrecked last saturday, and rebuilt by sunday afternoon.

I saw a video of it the other day on TV rolling through a pit lane, could have been silverstone. It was interesting, all you could hear was the gearbox. I'll try and find it maybe its on youtube.

Slow down? The 908 is a "faster" car the the R10 (at least it qualified on top at RA), Audi just seems to have a better package all around.

I just heard that Toyota is announcing a hybrid LMP (don't know if it's 1 or 2) car for the 2010 season as well!

I don't think they'll condense LMP (although ya never know), although I've heard that FIA is debating eliminating V12 and V10 engines for LMP's, making P1's V8's and P2's V6's. Not sure what difference it'll make in the long run though.

i can't find it, but lmp1 will be going to lmp2 engines, for cost and speed reduction. lmp2 will be going to gt2 engines, and gt1 (the 2 corvettes) will go away all together.

i never understood the need for several very similar classes. why not just have one high-end prototype class for the big guys? as for gt, even the lower-end gt3 cars are heavily modified from the vipers, f430s and 911s they started life as. i'd like to see 3 gt classes: stock, just a little modified, and pretty modified. only the fastest class should be on the track with the prototypes.

The '96-99 or so GT1 cars may have been dramatically overpowered, but you've gotta admit it made for some of the most iconic race cars ever. The Toyota GT-One, the CLK GTR, the Porsche 911 GT1...not to mention the R390 GT1 and McLaren F1.

I kind of like having separate classes of each, and I don't really like the move they're making for 2010. Although I'll admit, the current GT1 class is a bit...empty.
