both of these are very interesting cases for the HOF in my opinion.
Pettite was never the best pitcher of his generation, rarely the best pitcher on his own team, but he was HUGE in the playoffs, next to john smoltz mb the most CLUTCH pitcher of this generation.
Mussina was never the best pitcher of his generation, rarly the best pitcher on his own team, but he has some pretty amazing numbers. after glavine and big unit, mussina has the most wins. not only will no other starting pitcher break 300 wins any time soon, i doubt many pitchers will exceed 250. with the 5 man rotations, 6 inning pitchers etc, i think 250 wins will become the new 300 wins. it will be very hard to achieve.
so, given that, are either HOF candidates?
clearly in my opinion, pettite is the guy i'd rather have pitching in a clutch situation.
as far as HOF, i think mussina might make it.
