Why, so you can get together with more 12 year olds than are at a Britney Spears show? CS & UT2k4 are (and HL2 should be) enough, although people who are 12 now will be 40 when HL2 comes out. More games need compelling single player campaigns, not everyone wants to play with 8-12 year olds who think they're "1337 |-|4><><0rz" and who constantly "pwn j00" (yet when they lose, it's lag - or they forgot to wall-hack).

I'd want co-op so that I could play this with people I know and have fun going through the game instead of just sitting there by myself playing it (though I don't think that I'd get bored that quickly playing single player).

Halo co-op kicked ass. Far Cry needed co-op badly. All that AI horsepower and only one victim.
I imagine a mod wouldn't be terribly difficult to make though ... the AI's programmed to consider multiple enemies thanks to the Trigen, so you'd just have to make the leap of getting >1 spawn point.

It is not internally limited to only 4 players, meaning it will only be a matter of time before a mod comes out that allows for more.
