OK, sorry to say but I just think this artical was TOTALLY set up wrong and just came out ... like ass (can we say that here??)
Why are these set up with DUAL CORES?? WHAT GAMER is gonna drop 300+ bones on an HD-DVD/ Blu-Ray player?? And thus, what self respecting HTPC is Dual CORE let alone Intel?!! I do admit, that MAYBE high class enthusiasts with QUAD-CORE CPUs and $500 video cards MAY have HD/ Bluray drives, but... seriously, Core 2 Duos??? If you have one of those than your 1) your HTPC wasn't thought out very well or 2) your insane.
I, myself, am insane ;p. NOT because I have a Core 2 Duo in my HTPC... even *I'm* not that dumb, but because I bought an HDDVD drive I cannot afford ;p. Meaning I spent the rest of my money on a very modest Conroe-L (Celeron 420) system. I only have the PowerDVD version with crappy decoding, but unaccelerated using my Radeon 1550 over vga I can JUST bareley play HDDVDs. I'm hopping I can with Avivo! I also have an old Celery 2.4ghz (520??) that just plain wouldn't do HDDVDs. I'd be interested to see if it will with this!!
So you may be asking how I got HDCP out of a lowly Radeon 1550?? as long as you use a VGA connection (not sure about with an adapter... but I'd doubt it) anything with Shader 3.0+ will due, meaning 6600gt+ or Radeon 1550+. AFAIK

Anyway I'd love to see some REAL WORLD setups in there (IE AMD 3800+, maybe those low wattage x2s, Celerons), maybe even an epia if you can get your hands on one please:D. I say MAYBE those x2s cuz even my Pentium D 3.6ghz (941???) eats vc1s for breakfast... so I doubt anybody'd really care about those. That'd be like testing DVD decoding on today's hardware. It's at the point that nobody cares. Let's be sure to cater to those that CARE, not just those that MIGHT be interested... and those that wasted a hell of alot of money (me... along with anybody else that bought that 360 player... I bought the external Toshiba that burns DVDs, so I wasted a little less though -_- but just givin' a holla' to those poor suckers over there too -_-).

I am sorry for the wall of text... the parts about my own experiences are meaningless, but yet just an example of some things that I thought needed to be touched upon. Again, sorry for the wall of text ;p.

Edit- I'm sorry, I sort of blew off the hook there... I hadn't but skimmed the article previously, it was somewhat better than I expected. at least you used the E4x00 class rather than the E6x00 class and using the extreme is pretty much the same as using a quad core. But I still stand by, why didn't you address the ISSUE in using a REAL HTPC setup, meaning NOT Dual Core, NOT a Prescott, NOT Nforce (thankyou for not falling into THAT pit), NOT a full or ultra atx board like P35!! I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure that 945/ 965 mini atx based motherboards must pull a TON less Wattage... AMD chipsets for AMD chips only thankyou :p.

on second thought, I don't, nay I KNOW!, Epia's aren't ready for the HD revolution.... I mean, without HD decoding a measly epia 1.5ghz wouldn't stand a CHANCE and I, myself, wouldn't waste that 1 PCI slot they give you for a HIGHLY compromised GF 7x00GT PCI or that one RARE Radeon x1k PCI (GF 6x00GT exerpted for lack of HD decoding... I believe).... it may be a curiosity though... I dunno.

1. You might get people to read your posts if you used paragraphs a little better. Also, overuse of uppercase doesn't really do anything for you.
2. Sounds like a tantrum.
