I fuckin' hate that song. Otherwise he isn't bad. I liked his solo stuff much better than Genesis, and especially Phil Collins.

I like about 19.7% of Peter Gabriel's music. The rest is just too self absorbed even for Peter Gabriel.

Peter Gabriel leaving Genesis is the best thing that happened to both Peter Gabriel and Genesis. He was born to be a solo artist.

All the PG albums I own are on cassette. :p I remember him doing Biko live in the 80s, powerful stuff. Admittedly, I liked his poppier stuff too, like Red Rain and In Your Eyes. Sldegehammer was just OK to me, but the video for it was pretty cool at the time.

Secret World Live and Growing Up Live are two of the best multimedia concert performances ever.

He didn't sing very well while in Genesis but the songs were amazing. His voice is amazing on his solo stuff but the songs aren't as good.

Liked him much more solo then with Genesis, Collins on the other hand was great in both areas.

I dunno, the only Collins led Genesis Album I thought was epic was the Wind and the Wuthering which was their best IMO with the Lamb lies down on Broadway coming in a close second. Genesis was to pop for my tastes with Collins leading them.

In addition to many of those already mentioned in the thread, I always liked Red Rain & Biko. It's amazing how he's able to inject so much emotion into some of his songs with his voice (Don't Give Up in particular)

I love Peter Gabriel, but find it disturbing that the OP picked one of his worst songs EVER.

Also Genesis with Phil Collins is atrocious. Just horrible. Hell, Phil Collins is one of the worst things in music history.

Yet Sledge Hammer was one of Peter Gabriel's favorites. He said he finally achieved the MoTown sound he had been after for years.

Also, Genesis - Genesis is a very good pop rock album.
