Chickens are inquisitive and interesting animals and are thought to be at least as intelligent as dogs or cats. When in natural surroundings, not on factory farms, they form friendships and social hierarchies, recognize one another, love their young, and enjoy a full life, dust bathing, making nests, roosting in trees, and more.

They snip the beaks so they don't peck each other to death don't they?
Other than the intelligent part, they are correct in describing the chicken social behavior.Originally posted by: Mwilding

Aren't chickens the ones that stare at the sky when it starts to rain, and they won't stop? So you have to bring them inside when it rains or they'll drown?
It so they don't poke each other eyes out due to confine space, similar to the reasoning for de-horns steers to preserve the hide from scarring.Originally posted by: Beast1284

I believe that the animals ARE being treated cruely. I just don't like PETA...however, I do make an exception for the tiger lady (grrrrowl).Originally posted by: MacBaine

The only reason they peck each other to death in the first place is because the chickens are given like 11 cubic inches of space per 5 chickens or some disturbing number like that. While I don't agree with their methods, I am amazed by the people who refuse to believe that the animals are being treated cruely.

We can take a step further and torture those aids & cancer patient while they are alive, because they eventually going to die soon.Originally posted by: MacBaine

By that reasoning, why shouldn't we torture a stray cat before we put it to sleep? I don't have any sympathy for something that will shorty be in the ground.
On another note, the cruelty has health effects. Disease spreads quite easily, which means they have to pump them full of drugs (which eventually make their way into you), etc.
