(AP) -- Dumping the bodies of dead dogs and cats in the garbage is wrong, but the president of Norfolk-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said Friday that animal cruelty charges against two employees won't stick.

"It's hideous," Ingrid Newkirk, president of the animal rights group, said of the dumping. "I think this is so shocking it's bound to hurt our work."

But she told a news conference there was no indication of "pain or suffering" among the 18 animals that police in Ahoskie, N.C., found Wednesday in a shopping center garbage bin or the 13 found in a van registered to PETA. The animals received lethal injections, Newkirk said.

Nice title.

"PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals picked up in North Carolina are euthanized," Newkirk said.

It'll be interesting to hear why they were just dumping them like that. :frown:

PETA stand for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

So I thought it was ironic they are killing animals hence the title.

I worked in a shelter and after a few months they wanted me to hold the animals I would nurse back to health while they shot them up...

I walked out right there..but it is nessasary in some circumstances I guess.

I was a vet tech for years, and volunteer for the humane society, and here in Amarillo we killed 11,499 dogs and cats last year due to irresponsible owners. It's a necessary evil. As long as people refuse to fix their pets this will continue. I do often agree with Peta, but some of their methods are over the top, and they tend to draw fanatics to their ranks. This guy should have known to dump the bodies properly. On a good note here in Amarillo, the 11,499 is down from about 13,500 in the two previous years.

So, according to PETA it is unethical to use animals for medical research, but it's perfectly fine to kill them by thousands and dump them in a mall?

PETA has euthanized animals for years. In Virginia last year, the activist group euthanized 2,278 animals, sterilized 7,641 and found homes for 361.

I'm at a loss for words...

Nah, the dumping in the mall bit is considered unethical by the organization; just a few wackjob members thought otherwise.
