Death toll up to 17,400; overdue report describes PETA's deadliest year ever

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An official report from People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), submitted nine months after a Virginia government agency's deadline, shows that the animal rights group put to death more than 97 percent of the dogs, cats, and other pets it took in for adoption in 2006. During that year, the well-known animal rights group managed to find adoptive homes for just 12 pets. The nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) is calling on PETA to either end its hypocritical angel-of-death program, or stop its senseless condemnation of Americans who believe it's perfectly ethical to use animals for food, clothing, and critical medical research.

...
In courtroom testimony last year, a PETA manager acknowledged that her organization maintains a large walk-in freezer for storing dead animals, and that PETA contracts with a Virginia cremation service to dispose of the bodies. In that trial, two PETA employees were convicted of dumping dead animals in a rural North Carolina trash dumpster.
...

"PETA raised over $30 million last year," Martosko added, "and it's using that money to kill the only flesh-and-blood animals its employees actually see. The scale of PETA's hypocrisy is simply staggering."

...

If they'd kill just half of those animals, they could feed them to the others, save on food supplies, and keep more animals alive. If they're killed humanely, such as with helium or carbon dioxide, that's at least reasonably ethical, and it recycles the other animals.

"Soylent Chow: It's a dog eat dog world!"

Dammit people, do I have to think of everything?

It would be a whole lot better if we killed the PETA members and fed them to the animals. :)

PETA is like a lot of organizations these days. Their members' hearts are in the right places, but unfortunately the powers that be have their own agendas that don't relate to what their mission was supposed to be.

But, for those who actually do want to promote the protection of animals, I'd recommend donating to the ASPCA instead. They're actually a pretty good organization.

They also support domestic terrorism. Instead of giving them money, we should be delivering a 2000lb JDAM into their headquarters building during a board meeting.

Who the hell is giving them money?

Hippy, tree-hugging liberals on college campuses. I went to a Cure concert a couple years ago and they had a table setup giving out info on PETA. It was staffed by a few females that look like you think they would, based on my above description.

You all realize that the link in the OP is not a news story but a press release by an anti-PETA group, don't you?

The minds of ATOT.

From what I gather about the website that the OP quoted - they are meat loving type of organization. The reason why they published that report. Who knows if it's entirely true or not since it's a type of propaganda.

Someone not nearly as lazy as myself could search around for it on the website (Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services site) or request a copy of their filings from the state agency.

I'm a meat eating, leather wearing guy. I can only conclude however that PETA gets singled out for special abuse not so much because they are obnoxious jackasses (there are plenty of those in the world) but that people feel that their message is a thought crime. Lots of folks, some right around here, can't stand the thought that other folks hold the views that PETA members seem to hold.

Is that a celebrity, or just some extremist who has absolutely nothing better to do with her time?

The Penn and Teller show, bullshit on Showtime once had an episode about P E T A and the fact they do kill animals. I found it very interesting.

I pretty much hate PETA as much as the next guy, but how many of those animals they euthanised (sp?) were beyond surgery/help? PETA "rescues" a lot of animals that are very poorly cared for and have medical issues that cannot be reversed AFAIK.

*shrug*

I don't really care either way though. Life goes on, for me anyway.
