PETA employees charged with animal cruelty

I generally don't find animal cruelty funny no matter how ironic the source.
i don't think the humor is being found in the actual cruelty to the animals

Animal cruelty is hysterical. Right up there with cancer and communism.

Mom: Quit Stalin, show us your Marx
Son: Awww, do I Kruschev
Kruschev (abruply enters through front door): Did somebody say Kruschev?
(And they break out into a disco dance)

How exactly were they being cruel? By dumping them in a garbage bin? It's a stupid and inappropriate thing to do, but I don't see how you can be cruel to something that's already dead.

Read it again.

The two were picking up (live) animals to be brought back to PETA headquarters for euthanization...

So Peta rescues animals from shelters so that they can be killed and dumped at the mall?

It didn't sound like that was the part they were saying was cruel ("Neither police nor PETA offered any theory on why the animals might have been dumped." - if the cruelty was in the euthenization, you'd think they'd say they had no theory on why they euthenized them). Regardless, I don't see how euthenizing them is cruel either, at least not criminally cruel since animal shelters and veterinarians do it all the time.

I gotta admit that I don't get it, either.
Am I to understand that these two knuckleheads killed the animals on the way to PETA where they were supposed to be euthanized?
They were just saving some time and took the initiative to club the critters on the way?
It appears it was a guy and a chick, maybe they get steamy loins over that sort of thing?

Ah, now that makes me think they dumped the animals before they were euthenized... I was under the impression they took them back, euthenized them, then dumped them. The article could be read either way.

Yuppers. I read it twice. Not enough information/poor article.

"Investigators staked out the bin after discovering that dead animals had been dumped there every Wednesday for the past four weeks"
"The animals were from animal shelters"
"The two were picking up animals to be brought back to PETA headquarters for euthanization"
"Neither police nor PETA offered any theory on why the animals might have been dumped."

Connecting the dots I don't think the poor guys ever made it to the PETA headquarters, but it's not real clear. However:
"31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals."

The animal cruelty and dumping are seperate charges, indicating they were seperate actions. I think they were killing the animals and dumping the bodies instead of euthanizing them at PETA HQ.

It doesn't necessarily indicate that they were separate action, it's not uncommon to be charged with multiple crimes for the same action. But I think you're right, they probably never made it to PETA. Now I'm wondering how they died (doesn't sound like they were alive when they were dumped), why they did it, and why only one of them was suspended...

Heh, the ads at the bottom of the thread are...ironic...
