Pet Insurance

Due to having spent around $500 on vet bills for my cats in the last 6 months, I'm looking to get some pet insurance to help minimize any more cash out of my pocket. Does anyone have any pet insurance, and if so, any info on costs/benefits? Thanks.

I looked into a company before that would cover regular checkups and shots totally, and medical expenses up to $7k/yr for ~$100/year.

I'll see if I can find the info...

Our company offers something through MetLife's Veterinary Pet Insurance.

Don't know anything about it but you could check it out online I'm sure.

I have 3 out of 5 of my dogs insured with VPI and have been pretty happy with the policy. I'm not sure that you save much money in the long run (as with most insurance) but it does help with the major situations. My Great Dane had to have emergency surgery for gastric torsion and then spent a week at the top animal hospital in the the Houston area for heart problems. The total bill was about 4k out of pocket. VPI covered everything except about $500 and had me the check before the credit card bill came due. The insurane allowed me to keep my dog, something that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.
