Well, the time has come....I need to call in a professional. My monthly spraying and baiting just isn't cutting it anymore. The wife isn't too happy with me right now because she found a ton of ants in our master bedroom closet. The house is 4 months old...we live in North Texas....it's hotttt and ant's are going to make their way in! F!

With this said, I have never really delt with pest control. Our house has an "in-wall" pest control system so I would like for the company to be able to utilize this. I would like to setup a typical monthly spray (or 3 months, whatever)...but DON'T want to overpay. What do you guys recommend in terms of pest control service? Orkin, Terminix, others?

I'm sure you have local ones as well. Check them out and ask for quotes. It's not hard.

We got a local company to spray my house as there is a serious spider issue. Costed about 200 bucks and they did a full perimeter spraying and did all openings (windows, doors). Often they don't do inside as it is messy and/or dangerous. For ants they do inside too though, and you can't have pets or yourself in the house for at least 4ish hours if I recall. So if you have pets keep this in mind, you will want to relocate them to a relative's house for the day.

what does this mean:
"Our house has an "in-wall" pest control system so I would like for the company to be able to utilize this."

I use a local company. The guy sprays once a month. Not sure what he uses, it is odorless and colorless, but all I see is dead bugs, spiders, crickets, never see anything living. Whatever it is, it works well.

I have the in-wall tubing as well with the panel out by the front door. The company we use is http://www.pestdefense.com/ HomeTeam (they support this system), it's like $75 quarterly or so and I'm pretty happy with it. I never have any issues and if you do you can call them up to take care of it.

I just signed up for an online quote from Terminix. Like the OP, the wife is getting all weirded out because she's been seeing crickets downstairs (and the occasional spider which TOTALLY freaks her out making her reduce into child-like whining). I had been using ORTHO Home Defense Max that I got from Home Depot and sprayed it around every window inside and out, along the floorboard/wall meeting of just about every room in the house, around all the doors, etc.

For the first week or so, we just saw dead crickets and shit on the floor. But today she just yelled up to me moaning and whining because she saw a "HUGE CRICKET" downstairs. HUGE CRICKET translated into smaller than my thumbnail which I promptly killed by stepping on it.

Then she went on and on about "My parents use terminix and they don't have to deal with bugs, and my brother uses terminix, and he doesn't have bugs. I'm not saying that what you're doing is bad, but I just don't do bugs."

GRRR. How the fuck do crickets get inside anyway?
