If the teacher is guilty (which it sounds like he is) I hope they nail him.

He definitely got his ass handed to him, he even admits it but says "what I did was bad but what they did is worse."

There is a MASSIVE thread on the perverted-justice followup forum, you can read the blow by blow details of how they found him.

BTW, this isn't the first one that they've smacked in "real life."

They got a guy fired a few months back.

From conversation to fired in less than 24 hours.

I don't know about that. I mean I can understand that excuse. There are (lots of) people who aren't truly pedophiles, but get off on the fantasy. Just look how popular Ms. Spears is in her school uniform and skirt. A perfect, shining example of a pedophilic fantasy.

Right or wrong are irrevelant here as he's going to be hung out to dry either way. If he was truly a pedophile then I think he's got a real problem. But the (significant) difference is whether or not he would carry out his fantasy with a real child, or just role-play it with another adult.

there's probably some truth to that. On the other hand, it seems like legal action is unlikely (as opposed to if he'd been caught by law enforcement), so I think the social humiliation + losing his job is warranted. Reading the convo, the guy obviously has a serious problem. He's actively involving other people in a fantasy about a child the same age as those he teachs on a daily basis.

I don't know that I agree with you. Up to this point, he's done nothing wrong. Is it dangerous to have someone who has pedophilic fantasies teaching? Depends on whether he's crazy enough to act on them.

Reading though the chatlog, the person behind the keyboard did seem to be older than they claimed to be. I'm sure some of it was me knowing ahead of time what I was reading, but I don't think I would have bought the "I'm only 13" line either.

This is a sticky situation, and like I said he's boned no matter what. I just wanted to point out to everyone, before they get the rope ready, that fantasies are not wrong. Acting out the fantasies is what is wrong. If I have a fantasy about strangling a woman while I'm having sex with her (and I'm not claiming to, just an example), I'm not automatically guilty of murder, nor would a normal person expect me to commit a murder in the near future as it's assumed that I can seperate fantasy from reality just like 99% of the rest of the population.

I think the Cell phone calls were enough action to phuck him over.

I think he crossed the line when he tried to make actual real life contact via phone and set up a meeting. At that point you have no real argument of fantasy as there is no medium (the internet) to seperate actual people.
The faq over at their forum is an interesting read, apparantly without actual intent to contact in a real world situation they go no further (posting the personal info and such) That would be a stopgap between fantasy and reallity.

My point was that when he actively involved a stranger in his fantasy (even if he thought she was only pretending to be 13, which she/he was), he crossed the line that seperates ok/healthy/normal from "acting out". Again, I don't think it is an offense worthy of locking the guy up, but he certainly deserves what he has coming to him.
