Here's a thread on how/what/why

tldr : it's a mess , obstructionist right wing controlled congress has tried to impeach him twice already and Tuesday would have been the 3rd time

Key points:

~From the first months, Castillo faced the danger of an impeachment vote for “lack of moral capacity”.

~In only 6 months, Castillo’s cabinet picks were threatened and forced to resign.

~During this time, congress had blocked a law that would’ve allowed a new plurinational constitution from being voted on in Peru, as had been done in Bolivia and Ecuador to recognize Indigenous autonomy and necessary social economic standards to solve rampant poverty

~Castillo had lost support of the left, including his former party Free Peru, the center, and the people for not passing his reforms and due to the media coverage that compared Castillo with terrorism. At this time Castillo’s approval was only 24%. But Congress had just 11%

It's not like our own USA is too far off from being turned into a state of chaos what with the Repubs executing an insurrection, their leadership being complicit in that act of treason and the party faithful not doing a single thing toward policing up the mess they made at the Capitol. It took the Democrats to hold their president and their complicit party leadership to make them accountable for their actions while the rank and file members supported their insurrectionists by their silence.

I really do hope the Peruvians can withstand the assault on their democracy just as we in the USA are attempting to do the same by preventing the Republicans from corrupting the way we elect our national leadership into sham elections the same as Russia and China have done.
