I was looking for a photo to get a better perspective on what we are seeing on the news channels.
It is such a disaster zone its hard to tell what is what.

They were the second tallest buildings in the United States next to the Sears Tower.:(

In an effort to better understand the scale of this event, my wife and I were trying to scale the rubble piles by comparing them to the buildings in our city (Madison, WI). In short, the rubble piles are taller than most buildings here, and I suspect the volume of the rubble is larger than any building here. Way too sombering.

One commentator on the news today said that he never expects these buildings to be rebuilt...rather something of a memorial park constructed.

I am kind of torn on this one but I do feel that it would be too much of the victory for the terrorists to NOT rebuild the WTC. Though a memorial park would certainly honor the victims (how many- we of course still do not know at this point) I think the prevailing spirit in NYC seems to be of hope and even if they aren't saying...a lot of people would like to see the towers rebuilt.

It's premature to talk of this but I think a beautiful memorial building(s) that is even taller than the original towers would be a shining example of American renewal, resilience and hope.

I would think just the opposite.

I would hope for a both rebuild and memorial on the site. I suspect, however, that it will probably just be a memorial park like Oklahoma City. Real estate values mean nothing in the face of this huge atrocity. Would people want to work in a building built over the bones of their fellow citizens?

Maybe they could build replacement skyscrapers somewhere else in lower Manhattan?

I have a picture of my son with the WTC in the background that I took just this past Saturday. If anyone wants to host it let me know since I don't know how.

On the topic of rebuilding the WTC, I doubt it will happen. No company would risk renting space in a high profile building such as the WTC again. I'll bet there is a rush to get out leases of the Empire State Building, Citibank Building, Met Life Building and Chrylser Building as we speak.
