Personal Productivity/Scheduling/Task software: suggestions?

I have a horrible memory. I'd love a piece of software that was very small, perhaps even integrated into the shell, which I could set to pop-up "system event"-style notifications at predetermined times with my own text.

I'm hoping to avoid any large, expansive programs, though, as I don't want to have to run the program 24/7. That's why I was hoping for something that could make use of current windows systems. I'm on XP, btw.

Does anything like that exist?
