I've been eyeing either a TiVo or a ReplayTV, or some other PDR lately. I've begun to see the usefulness for one, so, I want to know, which one is better? I see that the TiVo has that monthly fee, and ReplayTV is free, but the replayTV is more expensive. Which one should I get, and does anyone have anything to say? Thanks.

The acronym does not matter. At home theater forum it's called PDR - it's the same concept

I think Tivo is best. Some others will think ReplayTV is better. Just get which ever one is cheaper. Don't get Showstopper! (those units are a PITA with Macrovision, etc). If you like hacking with it a lot (adding custom stuff, etc) Tivo is definitely the way to go. ReplayTV can be had cheaper I think. Both are upgradable hard drive wise. Tivo handles conflict management better, ReplayTV has a nifty 30 sec skip button. If they were the same exact price (u gotta add $250 to price of tivo for lifetime subscription) I'd buy Tivo because they seem more committed to good updates. For ex. they are soon introducing a new encoding process that reduces space usage per sure and increases quality (variable bit recording). If ReplayTV is significant cheaper though, you should buy that
