You know, I had my last checking account for 4 years and barely wrote 200 checks. I've had my current account for about a year, and I've used 15 checks, 5 of which were voids sent out for setting up automatic withdrawals and direct deposit. Checkfree rocks my world.

Actually, if you get any Sunday paper this company always has a special for $3.99 per box of checks (200) if you use the mail in order form and the "Priority Code". But, you can call it in too. Their internet site is not up to speed on this special though.

do you guys worry about the safety of these checkfree.com etc sites? are they reliable in keeping you account safe? any comments? i was looking into getting more checks, but if paying online is safe, i'll give it a shot... are there any free sites w/ no monthly fees??? thnx

As Rainguy says, just look in the Sunday papers. There are many offers in there that are better than this.

The first time I tried ordering online, the order "disappeared". My order shows up on their website, but when I called in to check to ask why it was taking so long for them to process my order, they said that they couldn't find my order. My CC didn't get charged either. I went and ordered through the mail it came in about a week.

I have seen better deals in the newspaper.

I have been buying checks from the newspaper advertizements for almost a decade. I only purchased from whoever had the lowest price. The only problem I ever had was when one company put the wrong zip code on the check; they sent me replacement checks promptly.

So check your Sunday advertizements.

yeah, i 've been buying checks for the past five years from the newspapers too adn not a problem...i remember when i was in college i would use about 50
checks the whole year. Now i go thru 200 of them in about 4 months. But the last two times i bought them, i went to internet sites of the same places
i got them from on the newspaper, and on the internet site they had what they called the "discontinued checks"; The themes of those checks are terrible, but
my duplicates came to a total cost of about 7 bucks, shipping included. So if buying checks, check the net for the discontinued ones cause you might get the
best deal there!

Or...just do some looking and find a local credit union that offers *free* checks + refills, plus interest on your account, plus free overdraft protection, plus low fees, sometimes even free rebates of ATM fees charged by other banks. I've always found these wherever I move, and I'm surprised people flock to the big banks, that rip small customers off left and right.

I havent bought checks in years since lots of banks offer them for free. and I have no need for "precious moments" or "wild stallions of the everglades" decorating my payment to the gas company. But everyone responding is right about it being cheaper in the sunday paper or mailbox flyers. $7.99 isnt that great a price for 1 box only.

Costco has good pricing on checks.

I hardly write any either, but I did finally order some last year. Online banking is great that way. Anyway, their prices are better than what the post has. I'm not trying to crap the thread, just letting you know that if you have a Costco card you can get better pricing. I have an executive card, so it's even better.

They are all the same. That 5.95 has a $1.75 shipping fee. which comes out close to $7.99 after taxes. These guys are NOT stupid. The only thing is finding the right "dogs playing poker" design!

Hey Bman,

It's no big deal, but I just thought you might like to know that:

$5.95 / 200 = $.02975 each, if you add that shipping fee BlueIce mentioned then they're $7.70 / 200 = $.0385 each

and Costco's

$7.88 / 400 = $.0197 each (no shipping fee I think)

Basically, you're talking about $.01005 more per check from the company you mentioned without shipping and $.0188 more with shipping . If I remember correctly, when I ordered my checks from Costco, I simply sent them a check of mine along with payment and they sent me the checks in the mail and there were no shipping charges.

I know it's pennies here, but we're talking $7.70 more for 400 checks at the place you mentioned.

Of course free is always better. I don't know how many financial institutions are giving away free checks these days. I've had 4 different banks in my life and none of them ever gave away free checks.
