They require direct deposit or you get charged $5.95 per month. And their savings account is free only with automatic transfer. I liked the automatic savings where they round up your change and save it for you, but without an automatic transfer into the savings each month, they charge you for that too.

I have direct deposit, but I dont like the "if's" and "but's" with Bank of America.

That's the one thing I've heard about BoA -- they love to nickel and dime the crap out of you. That and they have no branches within 6.5mi of me, so that's another reason why I went with Wachovia instead. My other choice was Sovereign, but DnetMHZ says they suck, so I guess I'll stick with Wachovia.

i have BofA. i don't like their minimum monthly balance reqs, but have been too lazy to change banks (have to change all my autobill information)

i have a credit union for my everyday checking (plus a savings that i don't use much), an online savings, plus a checking account at a brick and mortar to use for depositing cash/coins, or accessing large amounts of cash quickly. i get a great checking rate at the credit union, but sometimes you need to do things you can't do with an ATM, and it is very hard to find places that will allow me to do "inside the building" banking through them. i will likely open a second online account somewhere for the "car savings" fund.

The new gold accounts are the same as well. Before they would charge us a $7.00 admin fee but not anymore. Everything is free.

I opened a new checking account at Wachovia on friday after work. I actually got a upgrade type of account because I work for Johns Hopkins. I got a free box of checks, I earn reward points on my debit card which is usually found on credit cards, I get a free security safe box, a .25% lower rate on loans, and a few other things.

Been banking w/ BofA since 1995. BofA's online statement is quite detailed, from merchant, to direct deposit routing #s, to photo copy of the check you wrote. It's all a click away. I don't get charged any fees 'cause I have direct deposit setup.
