Would it be possible to upload our own avitars? It would make it so much easier to find your own posts in a thread or to distinguish between those that you know are full of cr*p and those that actually post something of substance.
 
Not exactly a novel concept but it does have merit.

Forum managers haven't embraced the idea though.

I am totally in favor of custom avatars.
 
Another board I use decided to allow custom avatars. The first day there were over 100 pornographic avatars uploaded by "brand new" members and the board admin promptly put an end to that.

It would be no different here.

What if we paid a small subscription fee for personal avatars and titles?

We can purchase the right to a custom avatar for a reasonable amount (like 10 bucks a year) and have limitations in dimensions and file size constraints to the current avatar size so as not to disturb the current layout for anyone. You can also make subscribers use their own space to host the avatars, and make rules that offensive avatars can result in permanent suspension of the service without refund.

Maybe add the incentive of custom titles also..?
 
Look what happened when FT was upgraded and pics were temporarily allowed in sigs. I saw goatse and tubgirl that day :thumbsdown:
 
Guys I can understand not wanting to have to deal with the potential problems, and like you say the OP could have searched, but you make it sound like you have never been to any other forums. On other forums that I am a member of, at least one of which is near AT's size, custom avatars have not exactly caused the system to colapse. I know it might requre additonal moderation, but if it was allowed it wouldn't be the end of the world.
