Person at work selling PS3...

They're asking $300 for a barely used 40GB PS3 with three games. The message didn't say which three games so that's up in the air. They also didn't mention how many controllers or any accessories so I assume whatever comes standard.

Is this a good deal still or have the prices come down to this by now?

Thanks.

Is the 40GB drive a big deal? I already have a PS2 so the lack of that isn't a big deal. My friend at work who owns a PS3 did mention something about new games have to 'install' on the hard drive? He got GTA IV and it installs I guess to the hard drive... is 40GB enough?

Thanks for the feedback.

i think 40 GB is plenty. Considering it's hard to get an 80 GB right now anyways.
you can always delete the game install data if you need space. I doubt you'd be playing enough games all at once anyways to fill up the drive.

Figuring each game uses 5 GB, that's at least 6 games you can install along with having various other files (saves, downloadable games, etc) on the system. How many games do you think you'll play at once? You can always delete the installs and re-install later. 40 GB is plenty I think.

If you decide to use it as an MP3 and video jukebox you can also replace the harddrive, the steps are in the PS3 manual and it uses standard laptop SATA hard drives.

The demos I've downloaded were in the 0.5 - 1.6 GB range, so you can fit 20+ of them on the HD. Some games do require a 5 GB install to the HD, but you can always clear that off without losing your saved games.

$300 is a good price if you want the games. Otherwise you can get a new one from SonyStyle.com for that price if you can sign up for a Chase/SonyStyle Visa ($100 credit).

If you want Metal Gear Solid and a rumble controller, the 80 GB PS3 + MGS4 + rumble Dual Shock 3 bundle will be out June 12 for $499. You could use the Sony Visa signup to get $100 off this one too.

Yeah, I just bought a 40g PS3 sunday and love it so far. If you have the cash then 300 is a good deal. Maybe they can even provide you with the receipt so you can hitch a ride on the warranty. Hard drive can be upgraded for 65 bucks to a Samsung 160g off of newegg which makes the entire debate on which PS3 model to get really moot unless you need PS2 compatibility. I also sprung for a FragFX cause I am a hardcore PC gamer and I honestly suck at CoD 4 with a controller.

I'm most likely going to be buying a 40 GB PS3 once the DS3 controllers are packaged with it. I really want to play MGS4 and still would like to try out Heavenly Sword and Uncharted. I really like the idea of being able to get a 160 GB hard drive for only $65 though. Is it just a matter of swapping the drives? Any setup needed? Is there a special housing on the drive that needs to be transferred?

Uncharted is next on my list. Might go rent it though since I have hollywood video here with 5 day rentals. As for HD swaps its very easy. There is a panel on the side that ops off with a fingernail. You pull out the HD cage, unscrew the SATA 5400 RPM drive out, pop in the new one slap it in and then turn on the system and it prompts you to format and install system software. The only thing you will loose are your saved games. Its very user friendly and you can use Samsung, Seagate or WD... etc.

I am also going to get a DS3 when MGS4 comes out. Six axis reminds me of the original PS controller with analogs added in. Its actually very nice as a remote for media. Decided the 25$ BRD remote was a waste of money right now because the PS3 6A will work very nice since its Bluetooth.

You can back up all your save game files to FAT16/32 formatted USB storage, so you lose nothing.

$300 is a good deal especially with games, I would see if you can get the receipt with it just incase you have an issue with it. I bought the 40gb a month or so ago and really enjoy it, Its my first console since the PS1 and I bought it mostly for the Blu-Ray player but the games I have played on so far I have really enjoyed, I just wish they didn't come with the $60 price tag.
