Its a shame the bigoted fascists can't keep nice things. I think its funny as hell that they talked ofneeding their own twitter, FB like platforms, a safe place to share libtard tears, and it takes less than two years for them to be shut down. But of course it's only because they are the oppressed silent majority. What a laugh.

The courts ruled a long time ago that credible threats of violence are not protected as free speech. Gab crossed that line.

I see hate from 2 sides with a lot of little scary subgroups. I mean I see hate speech here but it's acceptable because of some weird tribe mentality. I keep waiting for some P and N nut-job to end up in the news and all you guys will be famous :)

Privately owned hosting platorms exercise their free speech rights to dissociate themselves with another private client they feel hurts their brand.

I'm calling good shoot on this one. Conservative wetdream right here. Corporation's are people my friend.

Am I the only one who just learned this site existed this week?

I've been telling users here complaining about silicon valley policing their speech to go join Gab for at least a year now. I'm sure there are at least a few users here who've joined.

This seems like it was inevitable for Gab. Much like 8chan or Voat, advertising it as a free speech haven virtually guaranteed that it would get all the racists, sexists and other harassers who rightly get banned on other platforms. It's been known for a long time that Gab was a home for neo-Nazis... sadly, it wasn't until one of them acted out their violent fantasies that Gab's providers brought the hammer down.

It is an interesting test on Twitter banning and/or interference with the speech of a broader range of conservatives. Ones that do not include hate or violence, but are nevertheless targeted and silenced over social media. The response, in theory, is to "start your own". That Republicans should start a social media friendly to them.

Turns out, even that may be banned. Making existing platforms a monopoly on speech on the internet?
Some interesting tidbits here.

That's bullshit. Cite examples of speech not hateful or violent that have been banned. Alex Jones & Milo don't count.

Am I the only one that finds it hilarious how all of these "free speech absolutist" sites are always filled to the brim with some of the worst scumbags that humanity has to offer?

Any site that bases their foundation on promoting "free speech at all costs" is going to eventually get overrun with undesirable people who will push that foundation to its' limits.

Also, these idiots don't seem to realize that free speech doesn't apply to private platforms and private domain providers. This is literally the free market doing its job as intended.

You're operating under a number of false premises here. First, that Twitter is banning/interfering peaceful conservatives merely for being conservative (it's not). And more importantly, you're falsely claiming that Gab was simply a place for those peaceful conservatives to go. Sorry, but it was associated with hate speech and threats almost from the outset -- it's just that the inevitable product of tolerating hate speech unfortunately came to pass.

A word to the wise. If you find yourself being led away to a concentration camp for hate speech, don't act surprised. That was your own self hate seeking its self destruction all the way there.

Its more fucked than that. The free speech they're trying to claim wouldn't be protected by the Constitution. Threats are not fucking protected by the 1st Amendment. And we're seeing they are not empty threats. Unlike the Satanic Panic and the many man many other bullshit "threats" that conservatives have tried to use to block others free speech, this stuff has very real consequences.
