Perplexing Realtek 8139 / SMC Barricade

I am having a strange problem with a cheap a## NIC that is installed on a small network with a SMC Barricade 4-port. I use this computer for playing DoD/CS online though Won.net and when ever disconnect from a game and try to refresh I lose total communications to the internet. I do not lose internal communications to the router though. I can release and renew my NIC and see the other machines on the LAN. Just for giggles I opened the port range 27015-27020 just in case this might be part of the problem .. it is not. The NIC was having a fight with my old cheap sound card in the machine .. the NIC won and I went a bought a new sound card .. end of that story ..The only way I can get communications to the internet back is to power down the Barricade ... Any ideas .. besides replace the NIC ????

The system does not show any conflicts with other devices. Fresh load of Windows 98SE, All the patches and goodies applied.

Thanks for you help
