Perplexed: system won't POST

Heh, I'm sorta embarassed to ask...but hey, I need the help.

The rig I built my GF:

Antec KS282 w/Antec 300w PS
Abit KT7R
Athlon 850
256mb of Kingston (tiny BGA chips)
GF2 Pro
Maxtor DM+ 40GB
SB live! (The cheap one...can't remember the exact name)
Dialup modem
Win98SE

Most of the time, it will not post on the first power up. No beeps at all. The fans spin up, but no power to the monitor or KB. After manually powering on/off a few times, it boots up fine. Once it's up and running, it's stable as a rock. Gaming/surfing/emailing/photoshop, no lockups or other probs. It powers-down normally.

While running, temps are very low (I'm jealous). I have the memory timings set aggressively. 4-way interleave, CAS2, etc.

Any ideas?

Perhaps PSU? Have you got another PSU you can test it with (one that you know works)?

If not that, set everything to be laid back, ie CAS3 timings etc. then try it.

Um, SB Live! sound cards sometimes have problems with via southbridges, but I don't think that is affecting this at all.

From what I've learned, I think that maybe if you flip a few jumpers to different settings, (if there are any jumpers on the Abit KT7R) some problems might be fixed. In the Epox 8KHA+ manual, my friend had to set the jumper to Cmos clear to boot and run normally. The labeled "normal" setting for that jumper prevented the whole board from booting (no fans at all).
