Permit Bribery... for a good cause.

Each mod selects a charity, and when a donation to that charity is made in the moderator's name the donator can choose another forum member to ban for X amount of time. Amounts needed per day/week/month of ban time to be determined at a later date.

(Optional) To increase participation, disable the ignore feature.
(Optional) Have it be cheaper to ban from a single forum instead of the entire board.
(Optional) The would-be banned can prevent the ban by matching some percent of the donation

This suggestion comes from two realizations:
1. Charities need money
2. No one really needs to spend time on a web forum

Good idea, or bad idea?

When the last starving Third World child is put through Harvard, then what? This idea is doomed to eventual failure.

Terrible idea I'm afraid. It's in no way fair to those on the receiving end.

This is the greatest forum idea ever.

Donate $20 to ban someone from 1 forum for a week.
Donate $50 to ban them from all the forums for a week.
Cancel your ban by matching half of the donation.

The free market should decide the bribery prices though, so if too many or few take advantage than adjust prices accordingly.

A briber who only bans a member from 1 forum should get the title "Douche Bag" bellow their name. Someone who does it for all the forums should also get the title of "Super Douche Bag" below their name, so that they have both (see Virge a couple posts above who has two titles".

Of course if the member on the receiving end matches the donation, then the briber should get a title like "Aborted Fetus" or something.

I'd say it's an eminently glorious idea - those on the receiving end of the donation win, and the forums win. Hell I'd donate $100 apiece to permaban a handful of asshat wastes of bandwidth on these forums.

If someone donates $100 to RIF, they can ban me for a week.
