Permission problem when reading from a cloned drive

I recently cloned my laptop drive to an external drive using Acronis 10

Now i reloaded my laptop with a fresh version of XP, and when i try to access administrator documents on the external drive it gives me an access denied error. Does anyone know a way around this?

maybe just have to reinstall it back on the laptop?

i dont think i should have to though, since the clone just acts as a back up.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

t.k.

Are you an admin on the new installation of XP on your laptop? If you are, then try this: Go to My Computer -> Tools(top menu bar where File, Edit, View, etc.. are) -> Folder Options -> View Tab -> Scroll all the way down and uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing." Now, right click on the folder that you want to access and go to Properties. Under the "Security" tab, click the "Add" button. Type in "everyone" then click okay. Check "Allow" under "Full Control." Then Click the "Advanced" button and check "Replace permission entries on all child objects......." and Click okay. And click okay again on the main window. It might take a while for all the permissions entries to filter down, depending on the number of files that you have.

I am admin on the new install of xp, as well as i was the admin on the cloned drive. I went to My computer/Tools, and the simple file sharing option was not under the view tab. IM running XP Home, could that be whY?
