My lips always get dry and splits in this same spot over and over again. I've used the medicated lip balm, but I heard that those are actually worse because it causes your lips to become dependent on it? Meaning when you don't use it your lips get dry easier than ever. Don't people get addicted to using chapstick?

Licking my lips doesn't work obviously. Just gets them even drier.

Addicted? I see no reason why they would, unless you mean like OCD mentally addicted. You might want to look into other types of lip balm as chapstick really isn't the best. The few times I've tried Nivea Lip Care it has been much smoother than chapstick, and there are others out there like it or better:

If your lips are really bad you might want to look into just using Vaseline or something. If it really is medially bad then go see a dermatologist.

When i was in marching band in high school we all swore by Blistex DCT, it kept everything smooth and non chapped in all weather conditions even with all that abuse.

Try that out

I have this same issue all my life.

1. Drink more water
2. Blistex "Complete Moisture" in the blue capsule

Apply whenever your lips feel dry. It will take a few days to a week or about 1/3 a capsule and lips good as new. Not addicting unless youre dipping it in fucking cocaine beforehand.

But it's soooo much better if you do! :D

Could be nutritional deficiencies as well as not enough liquid intake.

I split the corner of my mouth and its taking forever to heal since I always split it back open when I eat.

If its good enough for a cows tits, its good enough for your lips.

Bag Balm: http://www.bagbalm.com/

I've been using this stuff on my lips, hands and feet for about a year now. It works.

I've heard good things about that, but you want to watch out in the sun. I think it amplifies the radiation, and you can get burned quicker.

So... Blistex or Carmex? I've been using Blistex for a week. It was all good until now. Just split it again while drinking tea.

Increase the home humidity, inhale throught the nose-exhale through the mouth, wear a dust mask to trap the moisture, install a humidifier right next to your bed to use at night. What more do you want?

It also splits for me every year during winter at the same spot on the corner of my lips. I believe it's called angular cheilitis and it sucks. I've tried all kinds of lip balm, some work better than others at closing the wound, none prevent it from happening at all though.

I know this thread is old, but I just want to chime in. I really, think this is all a result of your fluid intake. I drink a lot of coffee; in upwards of 3-4 cups a day. And even though I drink a gallon of water on a typical day, my lip still cracks, and it's always in the same spot. It doesnt matter what you use on your lips because it seems to start from underneath. If I roll back the coffee to 1 cup a day, possibly two, I recover, and if I stop drinking coffee, no problems whatsoever.

Put petroleum jelly on your lips every night before bed (especially during winter months with low humidity). After a little while your lips will be much more luscious and supple .
I first heard it from alpha m on YouTube and it indeed works. I don't use it every night in the summer or when the humidity is higher, but I do often in the winter cause my skin, all year, is dry in general.
