Hi all,

I am sick of having to change email addresses. I just want one permanent email address, and I'll just forward that to any other email addresses I have. Does any one have recommendations?? Yahoo charges $10/year for 10mb mailbox and pop fowarding. It doesnt seem like too bad of a deal.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also, I would like to also have the option of IMAP instead of POP, so that I can check my email online at any computer.

Thanks,
Tung

Me too, but I really like Yahoo's free service :) I've had it for many years so I still have the 6MB box, only problem is no POP3 for free accounts :(

Which expired on January 21, 2004.

Currently the best deal is

$8 Domain Registration + $10 Web/Email hosting = $18/yr which gives you:

Your own domain (whateveryouwant.com)
200MB disk space (to be used for web site, pics and email however you want)
4GB per month bandwidth
E-Mail (POP3/IMAP)
Webmail
Up to 10 e-mail custom e-mail addresses
Up to 10 FTP accounts
Up to 10 MySQL databases
PHP, Perl, CGI
and of course good 'ole www.yourwebsite.com hosting

u know..nowadays...i feel the BEST email is the one u host yourself.
these days so much personal/sensitive data like bank records, cc stuff, statements stuff..etc
..so much important data is on email that i feel less inclined to let someone else host it for me.
u know they can read it if they wanted to. i'd feel much better with my email on my own server box.
and on the technical side, i want to control my own downtime.

I can understand where you are coming from, however you cannot host your email at home unless your isp allows you to. And do you really want to pay upwards of $75 a month for a dedicated server? Any decent person would have no need to look through your emails.

huh?...i never had any problems doing this before. bandwidth is minimal, ports are open, ip is almost free depending on your plan...only thing is having a server on 24/7. Get/build a sff pc 100W and it shouldn't cost that much. basically an email appliance, nothing more. but yeah, in a year its still more money than going with a hosting company. maybe i'm paranoid but i don't want anyone stumbling on my mail when they're bored..etc. think about it, its actually as bad as someone going through your physical mail. and how do we feel about that?

I have actually tried it even though its against ISP rules. However what happened to me is the large companies like earthlink (aol) will block your email. Whether being send to a aol address or from one if the webserver is on a dynamnic ip address, like my cable connection.

I understand as well and agree that paying for a dedicated server is overkill to protect your e-mail, etc.

supertunger99 - I received your PM and replied, good questions :)
