Permadirty-windsheilds?

My windsheild is bad. Its a '91 Sable, don't attack the car, I love it. But the windsheild is bad.

The cleaning I have tried: pushing the squirter on my wipers, and the gas station thingers, and rag and water, but Its so bad still that When its in direct sunlight I can barely see through it. Ideas?

This might be a dumb question...but have you cleaned the inside of the windshield?

I've noticed that the inside "dirt" creates worse glares than the outside "dirt".

Gotta love carbonic acid. A tasty soft drink and shiny windows, all from one product.

😀

You still usually have to use windex afterwards though so the glass does not get stickey from the sugar.

windex and a newspaper(as the rag) in the shade.

Or coke and newspaper.

Really? 😕

Yep. I used to use it to clean the displays at Home Depot.

Hey the dentist doesn't tell you not to drink soda for nothing. It literally eats your teath away.

Zaino Z-12 CLEAR-VIEW GLASS POLISH

Finally, a glass cleaner and polish that really works. We have yet to find a stain that it did not remove. Formulated with modified cleaners and mild abrasives, that deep cleans and polishes all glass surfaces. Removes acid rain, water spots, road film, stubborn stains, annoying interior glass film and fine to medium scratches. This product will remove plasticizing (the hazy film that attaches to the inside of the windshield on all late model vehicles) in one application. Leaves glass crystal clear and sparkling. You will think the glass disappeared. Will not scratch or distort glass. Great for restoring old windshields. Can also be used to clean chrome and metal surfaces. For hand or machine use. Not for use on Coated Glass, painted or plastic surfaces.

Zaino bros.

My best advice:

Clean the inside and out of your windsheild, don't miss a spot! use Windex for the inside. Make sure the inside is spotless. Clean the outside with water and paper towels, (no rags, scratches the glass). Rub hard to get it spotless. Get some Rain-X on the outside, replace your wipers, and replace your fluid with RainX windshield fluid. (as you can see i love rain X haha)

Chances are none of the stuff mentioned above will return your windshield to pristine condition. If your car has it's original windshield, it is most likely has been sand blasted from years of exposure to the fine sand and dirt hitting the windshield. Think about this, when following other vehicles at highway speed, their tires kick up dirt and sand on the road. Add to the fact that it is being kicked up from tires going 50 to 70? Mph and then hitting your car going the same speed, it will eventually create thousands of little tiny pits in your windshield. Those little tiny pits will affect the clarity of the glass by themselves, but they also create a more porous windshield that will hold road dirt and film easier.

Also, if your wipers are not changed regularly (it's recommended every 6 months), they too will damage the clarity of your windshield. Oh, and if you turn your wipers on when the glass is dirty, same thing even faster.

I have seen windshields sandblaster like I mentioned above in less than six months use.

The only remedy is to replace the glass if that is the case.

This is the only decent answer so far.

I would also recommend a thourough cleaning of the inside glass, followed by a cleaning or the exterior..then, my little secret...wax the windshield just like you would any other part of the car...works like a charm

So much coke-lore. The amount of acid in Coke is unbelievably weak. Orange juice is substantially more acidic than Coke. You'd be better off cleaning with carbonated orange juice.

Try washing the inside part of the glass.
