Anybody else experience this really annoying fEaTuRe of win2k?
While my PC is sitting idle with no open applications, Win 2K decides it's time to take few seconds break (from doing nothing) and chug-a-lug on the hard disk. It happens about every 5 minutes or so, and lasts for about 5 seconds. During this time, if I'm doing something, it slows what I'm doing down to a crawl. As soon as it's done, I'm working at full speed again.
Task manager shows the Idle Process at 99%, none of the tasks show any activity at all when this occurs. But strangely, the CPU graph does show some CPU cycles used for this.
My setup: Win 2K Proff SP2 on Asus A7V, Athlon 900, 256 MB, IBM 45 GB (NTFS on primary part), ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. BIOS and drivers are updated to latest.
Help! How do I stop windows from going on a coffee break?
🙁
