Periodic lag spikes

So I've been working on trying to figure out this periodic lag spike I've been getting. At first I discovered my wireless connection was configured to automatically find another connection if it is stronger, and I disabled it. And the lag spike went away that day. So I thought I had figured it out, but it came back. I went over the system log on my router to see if anything was weird, and at least to me it is but I can't figure out what exactly the problem is. For one, it says my computer is getting it's IP address every 4-10 seconds. For another, I keep joining and leaving a multicast group but this is a longer duration in between. I think the multicast joining/leaving sounds about right for the time between lag spikes, but I have no clue how to fix this. Any ideas? I'm the only computer logged into the network and I was only running a game, don't know why I'd be joining a multicast group randomly.

I turned off network discovery to see if that would do anything. No lag spikes yet. Crossing my fingers.

Still getting periodic lag spikes. It is really annoying and seems to be consistently timed. Everything I've tried has failed and I just can't find the culprit at all.

what is the frequency of the "lag spikes" and do you have a diagram of your network? please describe what this "lag spike" is. . . . how long does it last, is it just slow or are you disconnected completely, is it only one subnet that does this or is it to the internet, does it affect other computers or just the one? etc

Don't laugh, but seriously, if you are on 2ghz Wifi and in an apartment, any time somebody nearby turns on the microwave it will slow down your WiFi immensely depending on the proximity. Going to 5Ghz seems to completely get rid of the problem. The cheaper the microwave oven, the better the "jamming".
