Jesus...you are going to quote that rule? This is why things always break down when others 'call me out'...they simply can't take it and end up in a corner trying to defy me.
You going to PFI next to cry?
Here are some facts, first the term Sentient/sentience means one is capable of being aware of emotions and sensation. They feeling pain/pleasure and suffering/happiness, and of experiencing a state of well being.
The problems have been is most of animal research has been to determine what's best for man, not the animal (and I am not saying this is a bad thing)...hell animal nutrition is still lacking even in the study veternarian's go under.
Add this fact to most religions deem animals without souls and frowned upon giving them human 'traits'.
Scientists learned animals learned through action / reaction. Beat an animal with a stick, it learns to not do something....feed it food, it learns to do something.
You can do this with people as well. It had been done with blacks that many thought were just another animal.
Scientists believed animals had no memory, no dreams, just imprinted behaviors.
However; things have changed and scientists have learned you can interact at a much higher level, have memories and are more than likely dreaming.
They are learning animals are figuring out puzzle solving not only to get food or sex (the two things that were believed to be the only merits to an animal) but simply toys or to be closer to a friend/object. They are finding animals use tools. Some even have constructed items...
This is all pretty new science and much of it has no place in preparatory education nor most majors.
One of the biggest problems though is those behind a lot of this research are a bit on the extreme end and lose sight of the argument by creating a pissing match of what's better animals or humans.
Ultimately that answer falls on to the individual.
