Hi,
I've been trying to find out in the last days a problem witch still remain a complete mystery to me

Installing whatever drivers (2k/xp compatible) on win2k or winXP, and tweaking my machine with so many manners and differente tweaks, overclocking videocards..etc.. I would bench around 2100 to 2600 under 3Dmar2001

Installing whateer drivers (9x compatible) on Win98SE, either completly stock or tweaked or overclocked.. I would bench between 3000-3600

My usual installation manner
Installaing VIA 4in1 (tried quite a few versions)
Installing Detonators (tried quite a few versions as well.. from 7.x to 23.x
Installing DirectX (If needed.. XP has it already installed)

The Awesome mystery in all this is that win2k / XP seems to both have a comon problem (even tough XP bench a little higher) witch I can't definitly find out, either can I think of a hardware failure in some way.. I've tested mostly everything with Sisoft Sandra and all my bench or very good

It seems like my computer, itself, has a problem with those exact O/S
I havent tried yet maybe testing with WindowsNT 4.0 or WindowsME

Hope someones can find out and help me :|
cheers

Asus A7V133 / KT133a (last BIOS version)
Athlon Thunderbird 1.4ghz

Asus Ge-Force II MX V7100

Hmmm, do you really need those 4-in-1 drivers under Windows 2000/XP? When I built my machine (albeit with an AMD 761 northbridge but a Via southbridge) I didn't have to install the Via drivers since Windows 2000/XP already had drivers for my hardware. You might want to try not installing the 4-in-1 drivers and see what happens. That said, there should be no physical hardware problem that would cause your computer to benchmark differently? Do you see any difference in game performance (frame rates) between Windows 2000/XP and 98?

Sorry Doug , I don't know what to tell ya but I get 25fps less using my Windows 2000 over the previous 98SE i had installed. Almost makes me wanna go back to 98SE. Maybe dual boot with 2000 and 98SE(for games). Sorry that I am no help.

Try VIA 4in1 4.37(a) and AGP 4.10 and make sure you've gor DMA enabled for drives. You can enable DMA going to conrol panel>system>hardware>device manager>IDE contollers>primary & secondary. 23.11 should be the best for XP.

That's funny, I get faster results under XP than I did with 98SE.

Your problem has to be hardware related or driver conflicts with via.

Hmm wait It cant be 4-in-1s, because I installed em in Win98 as well... and it was ok

They arent provided with win2k, and I installed em on it too... and win2000 gives pretty awwful results aswell
