How do I know if my computer is performing up to standard? I'm lagging badly during intense actions in dawn of war. The game recommends 64 mb of vram and 512 mb of ram and a 2.2ghz p4.

My specs:
Athlon 64 3200+
Geforce 6800GT
1024MB ddr 400 Ram.

Is there something wrong here?

Are you playing single player, or online? If online your internet bandwidth is the bottleneck.

If single player what resolution and settings?

Lags in in single player, online and playbacks. I'm running it with everything maxed out at 1024*768 32bit. I turned OFF the shadows and the framerates are around the same. When there are intense actions, the frame rate drops down to 9fps. Is this one of those games where the recommended is actually the minimum?

No virus. Just cleared spywares yesterday. Cpu is 40 degrees when loaded, videocard is 63 degrees. Do any of you have the game and have played on or above the above settings? Did you lag?

Here you can find what the system requirements for Dawn of War are. The game does not require a super computer but for a good performance you will need a decent computer.

The minimum system requirements are as follows:

# Windows® 98/2000/XP/ME with Direct X 9.0b (included)
# 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon XP processor
# 256 MB RAM
# DirectX 9.0b compatible AGP video card with Hardware Transform and
# Lighting and 32MB of Video RAM
# DirectX 9.0b compatible 16-bit sound card
# 4x CD-ROM drive
# Keyboard and mouse

The recommended system specifications are:

# 2.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
# 512 MB System RAM (required for 8-player multiplayer games)
# nVidia GeForce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500 or equivalent with 64 MB of Video RAM

For multiplayer, the following are also required:

# 1 disc/player per computer
# Internet: Cable modem, DSL or 56.6 kbps modem, for online multiplayer play
# Network: TCP/IP compliant network.

Your computer should easily run this game...What firewall do you havE? Because I got the same EXACTY problem, then I unistalled sygate personal firewall, and the problem went away.

mOeeOm thank you for your help. I don't know. Windows security center says that the firewall is on. But doesn't specify how many and which one. I think that norton internet security offers a fire wall and windows offers one too. How do I find out which exact firewall is on my computer and if it affects the game performance? It's now lagging badly.

Maby you have a heat problem? Are you sure your video card isnt downclocking because its not getting enough power? Another guy on this forum has the same prob playing CSS so it is probably a heat problem. BTW your on a killer system, no way in hell it should lag to 9 FPS. If a 6800GT wont do it, i dont know how anyone else will play it, or aford to play it.

Just go into your control panel and look for any firewal installed, if you have any, uninstall it, many gamers recommend just using the firewall that windows has.

The only thing I can see that is a firewall is the norton internet security. So turning the firewall off when playing games isn't good enough right? I have to uninstall it right?

Get an anti-virus, just not a firewall, for now use AVG Free Edition 7.0, uninstall any firewall you have(but enable the windows one) and try it, you may have the same problem I did, who knows.

No lol, just the firewall to test if you have the same problem as me. Get rid of the firewall and try the game, and report back.

Ok 2nd solution, it COULD be an overheating problem, I don't know the software for nvidia cards, but there is one that tells you that temp of your card. Find out what it is, also download Speed Fan and report back your temps.
