I have an ecs socket 370 mainboard with a 933P3 that has both pc133 and ddr slots, I have 384 MB of PC133 in in right now, do you think I should swap out the PC 133 and put in 256MB of PC2100? will it give me a boost on my seti times is the real question. I use it for "legacy(win98SE)" programs that won't run on XP, and SETI.

On my old Duron machine DDR dropped my times from 5:30 to 4:45. I would definitely go with the DDR.

DDR memory should help, but from what I understand, nothing speeds up SETI like faster FSB speeds.

<--- currently at 333MHz but soon to try 400

Ok, just wanted to be sure I know the K7 and P4 core systems run considerably faster with more mem bandwidth, but didn't know how much/if performance would increase with a P3.

I seem to recall that RDRAM was tried with the PIII (hey, I never knew PIII boards existed with DDR SDRAM!), and it didn't help much, if at all. Perhaps that had more to do with the latency than the bandwidth; I'm not certain.

Or maybe it did help, but wasn't worth the (much) extra cost. Or maybe everybody just hated it because of the sh!tty company that Rambus is/was... ;)

I remember back in the time i used to run Celerons and PIII ( all overclocked of course ;) )
that changing PC133 with DDR2100 didn't gain much... i would say about 5% tops in memory speed...

That was because of the small bandwith that P3 had ( that's why K7 gave Intel a good run for the money )

If it's gonna be a costly change, don't bother... If it's a few bucks, it won't hurt to try :)

free after rebate at omax, already have it, I just installed it, we'll see what the results are after a while, been having like 6hr 10 min WU's on average with the pc133

updated for you guys, no perfomance change whatsoever, I ran it all weekend and matched the angle ranges to the ones before I swapped the memory, the times are all within 1% +/- of each other.

I have an 800 Duron with DDR and a 900 Duron with Sdram.
I am running SOB and not SETI and they seem to average close to each other.
My Quake 3 fps went up with the DDR though.
I thought I would throw this in though its not revelant to the post.
