Performance problems with Core 2 Duo

Back in November I built a new system around a Core 2 Duo E6700.
This was not the first system I've built but it is the only one I'm disappointed in.

I built it primarily for running Premier Pro v2.0 and that runs well,
about 30% faster than my previous system, an Intel 2.53GHz with 512 Meg.

The problem comes I try to run multiple apps not written for the Core 2.
Apps such as WinRAR 3.6 Beta 4, Quickpar v0.9.1 run 3x-5x slower.
So much so they, and any other multiple progs I run, appear to STOP.

The same combination of apps run on the 2.53GHz system run very well. I can run
6 or 7 instances of QuickPar and several WinRAR's all at the same time.

On the Core 2 and looking at Task Manager they only consume 150-180 MegByte memory and 5-6% CPU resources.

Am I expecting too much from the Core 2 Duo system or do you think there is
something wrong?

Appreciate any guidance in this area

Something's definitely wrong. You did format your computer when you installed your new parts correct? I have the same CPU and it blazes through everything including unpacking rars. Something is wrong w/ software/driver wise.

Boot drive was formated. New install of WinXP SP-2, everything went smoothly.
Even though the boot drive is PATA, the swap file is 3.1 Gig on drive D: and is fixed size.

So now I can say that the whole system is slow...even in Premiere!!

Could the MB be the problem? It a very easy cope out

Thanks

The programs you list seem to be very hard drive intense. I would say something is wrong with the HD subsystem. How are the drives configured? check which modes the HD's are detected in bios. And run a hard disk benchmark like sandra and check your HD performance

Download Sandra

Run the HD,CPU and memory benchmarks. Post your scores here
