I recently upgraded my graphics card and ram to a nVidia GeForce 8800 (G92) 512 and 3 GB DDR2, respectively. The problem with my machine is that my processor is still a P4 3.4 GHz HT....In short, my video card and RAM are top of the line while my processor gimps my machine.

What I'm looking for is some sort of reference that will tell me what settings on all of my games demand the most from certain hardware parts. For example, does texture detail affect my video card or processor more? Is physics more of a processor or RAM or video card issue? Any information would be very greatly appreciated, be it a kind soul actually listing the various settings or simply a link to somewhere else. Anything would be awesome.

Tweakguides generally has good information on this sort of thing. I usually skim through their articles and go by what they suggest before starting to play a game.
