Performance of RAID 0 depending on block size?

This is only for RAID specialists 🙂

I'm running a RAID 0 array with 4 x 4 HDD. The default setting when arranging the array with the Promise Fasttrak 100 TX PCI controller is a block size of 64 K. In theory a smaller block size is better for performance, unless you work with large files such in A/V editing. I re-arranged the array and set the block size to 16 k. Now I get LOWER
HDD bench scores in Sandra! I know that Sandra is full of bugs and not a professional tool to measure performance. But I'm wondering, has anybody benchmarked his RAID system with different block sizes? Unfortunately I cannot use HDDTach, because the free version does not work under W2K. Is there any other HDD benchmarking tool? 🙂 Help is appreciated.

Just read Anand's comprehensive article about RAID...he tested all different block sizes...you'll find the right one for your controller there 🙂
