i just got the dell 2400 with the intel 845gv chipset and intel extreme graphics card...games such as warcraft 3 and cs and madden 2004 all run smooth..no choppiness whatsoever. i dont see why people posted saying that even simple games will lag and become choppy...i guess your standards are too high. and also the integrated graphics is much better than the tnt2, not just the same or a tiny bit better as people have mentioned...

Well, they can't compete with the current offerings in the GPU market.

However, I have read in.. I believe CPU mag, that the GFX chips from intel in generation 3 may stand strong against the GPUs of nvidia and ati, and the GFX4 may surpass them.

I personally can't see that happening, but who knows, I guess.

I certainly don't.

I honestly cant see a graphics core being integrated into the northbridge defeating a standalone card running memory which has over 12x the bandwidth of ddr2s intro speed.

What res are you running and with what settings, that's the question.

personally, i run all my games at 1280*1024 with 4x and 8x af so onboard is out of the question

also, the games that you mentioned are not really graphic intensive

Exactly, no way am I gonna be able to play Call Of Duty at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF and still get 40fps solid with integrated video.

Don't forget though, Intel is still the leading provider of graphics chipsets...way beyond ATI or Nvidia. (still hate intel though)

You're using CS, WC3, and Madden 2004 as a benchmark for performance? /laughs

Try playing something else with "2004" in the title - like "Unreal Tournament" and tell me if the Intel measures up. ;)

I don't know about Madden 2K4, but WC3 and CS aren't that hard on the video card. Your powerful CPU is providing most of your framerates.

Yea, try running FarCry on that, even with the lowest everything, it won't even open.

raiderninerfan, my advice to you, if you want to get the MOST out of your system, get a PCI video card, it will free up your system's RAM, and it will be a dedicated card for video processing. HERE is one of the BEST PCI video cards available. I owned a PNY FX 5200 in AGP interface type, and I can honestly say, it was a very good card, and it could even run HALO at 800 x 600.

Intel is the leader of onboard graphics simply because they are the most popular with OEM vendors, not because they perform the best. Any current external graphics card will out-perform any onboard, almost guaranteed. Without being limited to what memory bandwidth it can use, an external card won't be bottlenecked when the rest of the system is trying to use the RAM.

Actually, I'm sure UT2004 will run on it because it includes a software renderer for cards without hardware T&L. You could concievably run it on a TNT.

Oh man i want to see a screenshot of it in software render on IEG :) Itll look terrible at 15fps with a clip plane 10 feet away.

OMG, have you ever tried running it with the software renderer? *shudders uncontrollably*

I'll do that later on. I have an i810-powered box at home. Don't worry, the screenshot won't be big ... just 320x240 ;)

i'm not much of a hardcore gamer..i'm still playing games without high tech exceptional graphics like cs, gta, wc3, madden etc...but the thing is i asked earlier if simple games like these ones will run fine on a i845GV integrated graphics and everyone was like..no, they'll crash or become choppy....and i tried them and they work fine. if later i decide to play high detailed games then i'll consider a pci card.. and also..i tried unreal 2004 and that ran decent. heck i tried it with a tnt2 and it still ran fine.

I had a system with this onboard graphics the Intel Extreme. I played Unreal 2004 at 800x600 with low to medium settings and had 25-35 fps. Definately playable. I also enjoyed RTCW on it as well.

However, I built my own and using a Radeon 9200, I've got all the settings jacked up, and you do MISS alot of the detail in the onboard cards. . .
