Hey fellas I'm new here and my first question is should I trade my 980 for a 390x+cash or should I just keep posting on here till I can access trade and sell my 980 for a ti? I'll be gaming in 1080p but I just want something that can easily lock 60fps.

Depending on what games you play 390X is within a couple % of 980 performance at 1080

Keep the GTX 980, easy choice to me. All the hassle it will give you to sell a card to get another one with about (or even less) the performance of your current card.

But if you want better, then a GTX 980ti is the best choice.

Depends on what games and how much cash you are getting to make it worth your time. Most games they go back and forth on performance but are pretty even and well over 60 fps. You'll never notice a difference.

That could all change when newer titles come out. Like what happened with Kepler, as it's performance dropped relative to it's AMD counterparts. AMD's uarch has proven to be more forward looking than nVidia's.

You also get 2x the VRAM, but at 1080P, or any resolution you can drive with a single card, the 4gig that the 980 has is more than sufficient.

He's not spending money. He's trading his 980 and getting money.

I thought he meant trade in, aka sell, his card, and buy 390x.

Seems odd someone would offer to trade.

But that makes more sense.

In that case, it depends on $.

if he's trading and getting money for 980......I'd say depending on how much he's getting for it....if its 390X plus 50+ dollars......go for the trade....

if its less than that; then no....

If you had a new monitor that does 120hz or greater, then I'd recommend the 980ti with decent overclock, but it seems you are using a 60hz monitor so the 980 should be fine. You'll still drop below 60 on some games. 1080p can still punish a single GPU and I don't know why people pretend like its 640x480 or something.

That's a whole big it depends. What 980 do you have, what 390X does he have, and how much cash? If you're running a 980 Strix it will be different than say a reference model, though the reference blower on the 980 is really decent.

Generally, if isn't $50 or more I don't think it would be worth the time and hassle to pull your old one, pack everything up, install the new card, deal with drivers, etc.

A lot of key details are missing such as how much $ you'd get out of the trade and what games you play specifically. Also, are you planning to upgrade to 14/16nm GPUs in 2016/1H of 2017 or do you want to keep this card for 3-4 years? 980Ti for 1080p @ 60fps in current gen games is a waste imo. You could also consider 970/390 + cash.
