Performance loss of putting Memory in 2nd slot..?

Hey guys, I recently got a Maximus V Gene motherboard where the first two RAM Slots (A1 and B1) are faulty. Basically, if I plug in any ram into either of these slots (i run with 2x4gb corsair), the board give me a "55" error code - which means No Memory Installed. However, if I leave both of those slots empty and put one stick in either of the other slots, the board boots up just fine.

My question is - What kind of performance loss would I be getting if I were to simply get an 8gb stick and place it in one of the other slots on the motherboard (A2 or B2)? I haven't tried EVERYTHING to see if the slots can be fixed, but I figured that this might just be the easiest way to go - at least faster than having to RMA this thing and then waiting another 1-2 weeks to get the replacement.

I usually only browse, movies, music, and game on my comp. Nothing too crazy. Thanks for your help!

If the ram slots are bad right out of the box, I'd RMA it. Who knows what other problems the board has, or will develop.

Use A2 and B2. Actually in the manual it says use the red slots (channel 2) when running 2 sticks only.

Pretty sure ASUS requires you to put Ram into the furthest matched slots first(the red ones on the Gene).

My P6T board doesn't work with three sticks of ram in the first, third, and fifth slot from the CPU, but they work in the others.
