Performance Issue with Win2k pro and win98

I currently have 2 machines running 3com 10/100 nics and a netgear fs105 switch. The switch is also connected to a cable modem via the uplink port. Everything works fine and they can see each other's shares. But when d-loading from the 98 machine to the 2k machine using the ms sharing the w2k machine's cpu usage is steady around 70-80 %. I wanted to know if this is normal or what. Also i am only getting around 1200KB a sec transfer. Both nics are set to full-duplex and 100mb media type. The lights on the switch seem to be lit up the way they are suppossed to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Have you tried the latest 3com drivers for both Win2000 and 98? They are v1.80. I was having thise problem with two machines here, except it was a WinMe machine that was spiked. Do you have DMA enabled on the Win2000 box? Also check the properties of the NIC and make sure that the checksum offloads are enabled. I think that fixed my problem with the WinMe box.
