Performance is horrible when multitasking

I have a dual core X2 processor and before I used to be able to run the sims and use itunes simulatanously with no problem at all, now the game stalls constantly and my songs keep cutting out, is there something wrong with my system? Thanks. It's at stock cpu speed right now btw.
edit: My mouse just freezes temporarily too, but I think this is probobly a whole other issue, probobly with the drivers.

Did you update iTunes recently?

The past couple months it has taken a performance hit for some reason. Have you tried playing music with, WMP? And playing the game at the same time? Just a suggestion to make a comparison to see where the problem may be. If it plays just fine, then it may be an iTunes issue. If so, check for an update. When I first installed the iTunes update(to version 7 was it?), it pretty much dragged my music to a half when I did anything.

Yeah, I noticed that with one song it started to jump around, I'll try it with WMP and see what happens.

Any luck?

No, and I just found out that even when I play the music in the sims it can cut out frequently too. I have a strong feeling it has to do with the integrated sound card.

You also might want to check if you have any rogue processes (ie, malware) eating up all your RAM/CPU time or anything like that.

But if the problems seem related to sound playback only, definitely look at your drivers and settings.

There is plentry of RAM free and the cpu usage isn't at 100% when the sound cuts out.

Do you have the latest itunes? Are those overclocks stable?

I had a problem with the older itunes chopping while loading large picture files on my single core but it didn't do it before only after I got the latest one.

I still have problems with the latest itunes idk if anyone else is having the same problem i'll close the program down and pretty soon it will say it crashed kind of annoying but it only crashes when I try to close it sometimes. I've also noticed it happens more while listening to music so i tend to pause it than close it 🙂

If it's an onboard sound issue I can care less because I'm getting an X-Fi fatality soon.
