Performance increase question

My old parts in my desktop have started to fail so I've decided to buy a few parts from a friend.

Current parts
-athlon x2 3800 oced to 2.6 ghz
-2 gigs of dd1 ram running at 217 mhz
-an8 abit mobo

Potential parts
-athlon x2 5200 windsor (I've read 3ghz is pretty easy to obtain)
-2 gigs of ddr2 800 ram
-not sure, some asus board

I currently run a hd3850 graphics card and run my games at 1440/900. I may go up to a 1920x1080 later but for now i'll use my 19 inch. Will i have any problems with bottlenecking at either resolutions?

I can ask for more details if you guys need them. Sure I would love an e5200 or something like this but the deal im getting is great 🙂

What I am looking for is just a general performance increase estimate.

Uh, your performance will increase? You're getting a faster CPU and slightly faster RAM. No change to the GPU so don't expect massive changes in games.

And in addition to that, I wouldn't expect anything special in terms of performance from an HD3850 playing at 19x10.

i would actually expect 0 difference w/ the change @ 1440x900 and little if any @ 1680x1050. what do you want for that x2 3800? assuming it is 939, not sure if they made am2 w/ ddr1 so lmk. also, assuming it is not failing 🙂

A friend of mine is interested in the cpu and ram. The motherboard is the thing that is starting to die. I'll let you know if things fall through.

I don't think they made am2 with dd1.

youll see next to no performance increase ... go with a c2d setup and oc it to 3.0ghz or higher, then youll see some gains ...
