Performance Hit with D-Link PCI Wireless Adapter

Have a D-Link DWL-G510 PCI wireless adapter. I only install the driver for WXP. When this PCI card is connected to the PC, the performance of my PC goes down (1M digits Super Pi time went from 38.6 to 39.4 seconds). This is equivalent to a 40MHz hit on the CPU core speed. If I disable the adapter or remove the adapter, then the SP time returned to 38.6 seconds. I suspect the PCI adapter does not have onboard processor similar to a hardware-based modem. Therefore, it must rely on the CPU clock time to process data.

Can anyone confirm/duplicate this problem?
