Motorsports: Safety Fast: Racing Techniques and Everyday Driving

Ah, I was looking on the net for steering techniques cause I think the hand-over-hand crap that the driving instructor's teaching me sucks. My hands feel all over the place and I often "run out" of steering and don't know what to do with my hands. Maybe it's cause I'm a newbie, but I remember when practicing with my grandma a while ago(who used to drive autobahn style when she could) she showed me a different way that was a lot easier, and I finally found it here again: it's called "shuffle" steering. Why don't they teach THAT in driver's ed? I feel a lot more in control steering that way. Anyways, the other articles are interesting too and just thought I'd share them with the rest of you :)

Edit:

Another good one

Yeah, that's similar to the way my grandma showed me. Damn turning like that is so much easier and more fun. I remember I got carried away and was doing 43mph in a 19mph zone. Didn't even realize it at first cause there was a hot girl driving an integra right behind me matching me move for move ;) I slowed down after of course.

Is shuffle steering the one where it looks like you're milking a cow? If you're turning left, right hand pushes up, left hand grabs it and pulls it down as your right hand goes back down to push it up again?

That seems to be a typical senior citizen way of driving. And if you want to drive like one of those insane senior citizen drivers good luck luck.

Oh by the way try driving a car with no power steering with shuffle driving. Take you a half hour to get the wheel turned haha.

Haven't driven a car with no power steering so I dunno. Anyway, it works for me, much better than the hand-over-hand crap. If you have a better way feel free to suggest it ;)

And did anyone check out that first link? It's not just about steering? It's about a whole bunch of things that can make you a faster and safer driver. I know a friend who thinks he's all that that could definately benefit from that link :) Send it to your ricer friends! ;)

Yeah. I couldn't afford the expensive courses so I dropped out at the last minute and registered with a cheaper place. Doesn't teach emergency skidding or anything useful, just crap to pass the test like lane changing and parallel parking. Ah well. I can learn the fun stuff on my own :)

Shuffle steering is smoother so that's what you should use when you are skidding or in low-traction conditions. And you should only be going hand-over-hand on sharp turns anyway, for anything less than 90 degree left turns you hardly have to move your hands.
