Performance differences between T-Birds and XPs?

Okay...I have a question. I'm building a new machine...this'll make 3, woo hoo...and I was trying to decide which way to go. I already have everything, accept for the mobo and chip...and I was looking into an Athlon in the 1.4ghz range. My question is, I can get a 1.4ghz t-bird for quite a bit cheaper than the XP1600...so, my question is...what are the differences in performance between the two chips. Would the 50 extra bucks be worth it...?

Thx...

Since the T-Birds are basically the discontinued stuff now, I'd say go the XP just because they're the new standard AMD line out right now.
the performance difference isn't all that noticeable in *MOST* cases.. it is noticeable in some, but overall, it's a somewhat small difference for most tasks.. I'd get the XP though just because they run alot cooler, and that little bit of extra speed, is always good. I am currently running a 1333 T-Bird at 1500 and I have no need to switch, at all.. but if i was going to upgrade, I'd get an AXP for sure.

When it comes to upgrading i'd suggest you always get the latest technology because support dwindles quite quickly in the computer industry. Not to mention that in the processor arena speed doubles something like every two years if that. Lately it has seemed to double about every year and a half.

To answer your question though, yes xp is worth the extra money. It's a lot faster according to the reviews i've read.

I'm still running a lowly Athlon 650 though so what do I know about what is your best decision? Actually, if I had the cash to spare I wouldn't even think about getting the Thunderbird as opposed to the xp. For me the xp wins hands down. Even if I was on a very tight upgrade budget I would still get the xp. If I had to I would sacrifice another component for the extra processing speed but I guess that's just me.

Mobile Computer Service in Reno, Nv. has some killer deals on Asus & MSI motherboards with Athlon XP's.
I don't have their web address handy, but my computer has their phone # on it (775) 746-3223.

Happy hunting !!
