Performance difference using Windows Default drivers?

I have been having a video problem with the last couple detonators and a GeForce 2 PRO where I get a black screen after windows loads. Well I just reformated and didnt install any drivers at all and just let winXP use its default drivers, no more black screen. What kind of performance can I expect with these drivers? I could install some games and run all kinds of benchmarks but I would rather just ask someone that has already been through it🙂

Thanks🙂

I know this is the obvious answer but usually the latest drivers are going to give you the most stablity and all around best performance since they include all the bug fixes and tweaks for new games.

Ok,

I understand that the nvidia or ati drivers are "supposed" to be "best". But I have never tested the difference for myself...Ive always just assumed that the manufacturer made drivers were best and have made it a habit to install the lastest drivers on all my systems. Since this practice has become normal for me I have never really experienced the default drivers for windows. The newest detonators are unusable for me ( I know its wierd, but Ive tried everything and cant fix it) so Im forced to use the default drivers and I simply wanted to what (from other peoples experience) the differences performance wise were.....

We can all say "the latest drivers are better"...but has anyone done any testing? Or are we just taking the manufacturers word for it?

Just use the 30.82's. They should be the most stable for that card.

Yea Im sure I could find a driver set that worked if I wanted to spend the time. The reason Im asking is because I really dsont want to spend the time on this computer tweaking and benchamrking. Its a computer Im selling and dont really want to intall any benchmarking tools or games on it.

I simply want to know if anyone one has experience with the default windows drivers. I want to be able to tell the buyer what thier getting.....:0

Unless I'm mistaken the Windows drivers still don't include OGL support. I wouldn't even think of using those on any card (even an older one) with "Geforce" or "Radeon" in it's title.

I wouldn't worry about performance differences so much though, they're usually minor and it might be just as pleasing to the owner to have the Digital-Vibrance blah blah blah options, which are in the 4x series and up IIRC.
